Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the East Valley School District Board of Directors. The position that is open is in District 2 and the term of this position expires November 2025. If you are selected to be the director and want to continue in that position, you will need to run in the general election in 2025. If more than two people sign up for the position, there will be a primary election before the general election.
Timeline
Once the application window has been closed, East Valley School Board members will review applications, screen candidates, and then set up interviews during December. The successful candidate will take their oath of office and respective position at the January 14, 2025, Board meeting.
Eligibility
There are three formal requirements to serve on the school board. You must be a U.S. citizen, a registered voter, and a resident within the East Valley School District boundaries. An additional requirement for this particular vacancy, is that the candidate must reside in District 2.
Meetings
The school board meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month (except December, July, and August) at 6:00 pm. The board may also need to attend special board meetings.
Training
New board members must receive training regarding the Open Public Meetings Act, the Public Records Act, and the Public Records Retention within 90 days of taking office.
Orientation
Directors will receive an orientation by the Superintendent and Board President soon after being appointed.
What We Do
School boards are responsible for the education of our community's young people, ensuring all students have access to a high-quality, rigorous education that prepares them for college, career, and life. Our board consists of five elected/appointed representatives who reside within our district and meet regularly to discuss and decide issues related to our school district. They base their decisions on input from the superintendent, families, teachers, students, and the general public.
Major Responsibilities
Hire and evaluate the superintendent
Adopt policies that promote education and effective, efficient, and safe management and operation of the school district
Set spending priorities and approve budgets
Approve textbooks and curriculum materials
Adopt the annual school calendar
Approve the District's vision, mission, and strategic plans
